{"id":43,"date":"2014-02-20T05:37:20","date_gmt":"2014-02-19T21:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/comp.utm.my\/industrialtraining\/?page_id=43"},"modified":"2020-03-30T01:09:45","modified_gmt":"2020-03-29T17:09:45","slug":"preparation","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/comp.utm.my\/industrialtraining\/preparation\/","title":{"rendered":"LI Preparation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[et_pb_section fb_built=&#8221;1&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243;][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243;][et_pb_accordion _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243;][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Course Registration&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;on&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nIt is COMPULSORY for the students who intended to go for the industrial training to enroll for this course on the registration day as set by the university \u2013 failing which the students will NOT be permissible to commence the industrial training.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students ARE NOT ALLOWED to enroll for other courses while undergoing the industrial training.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students ARE NOT ALLOWED to undertake the industrial training during the final semester of their programme unless with the consent from School of Computing (SC) Chair.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Duration and Course Code&#8221; open=&#8221;off&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The industrial training shall be conducted within the duration as determined by the SC; i.e. Twenty (20) weeks for the Bachelor of Computer Science (majoring) programme. It shall be taken during the normal semester prior to the final semester of the students\u2019 programme. The students are required to register for the course code SC*3114 (Industrial Training Report) &amp; SC*3118 (Industrial Training).<br \/>\nSB \u2013 Bioinformatics<br \/>\nSJ \u2013 Software Engineering<br \/>\nSR \u2013 Computer Networks &amp; Security<br \/>\nSV \u2013 Graphics &amp; Multimedia Software<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Registration Requirements&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students are eligible to enroll for industrial training only if the following requirements are met:<br \/>\ni) Achieve the \u2018acquired credit\u2019, minimum of:<br \/>\n\u2022 95 credits (for SCSB programme);<br \/>\n\u2022 92 credits (for SCSJ, SCSR and SCSV programmes)<br \/>\nii) Attain the CPA in \u2018Good Position\u2019 (KB: Kedudukan Baik) status with CPA \u2265 2.0.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">However, the student who does not meet these conditions may appeal to the Associate Chair (Academic &amp; Student&#8217;s Development) by submitting the completed Industrial Training Appeal Form (BLI-1B). Should the appeal is rejected; the student is required to take on the industrial training in the subsequent semester.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Student with CONDITIONAL POSITION (KS: Kedudukan Bersyarat) need to appeal to the Associate Chair (Academic &amp; Student&#8217;s Development) by submitting the completed Industrial Training Appeal Form (BLI-1B).<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Credit Exemption&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nAll direct admission students with related working experience for at least TWO (2) years may apply for credit exemption for the Industrial training. However, industrial training which was completed during Diploma programme IS NOT QUALIFIED for credit exemption.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Briefing&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nThe industrial training briefing shall be held on the fourth week of the preceding semester before the training commences \u2013 where students\u2019 attendance is mandatory. The students are expected to record their attendance through the Industrial Training System (ITS). The briefing is intended to guide the students in selecting and applying for the industrial training placement.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students who are unable to attend the briefing are required to:<br \/>\ni) present a show-cause letter to the Industrial Training Coordinator;<br \/>\nii) submit a complete Industrial Training Application Form (BLI-1A) to the Industrial Training Secretariat;<br \/>\niii) enrol for the Industrial training via the ITS registration system.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The Industrial Training Committee shall decide on the students\u2019 eligibility in order to login to the ITS.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Student Profile Update&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nThe students who qualify for the industrial training should activate the ITS account and update their personal details and upload their resume.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Industrial Training Placement Application Procedure&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students should apply placement at external industry. However, the application in UTM is only being considered after applications to a few industries are rejected and with the consent from the Chair.<\/p>\n<h4>Industry Information<\/h4>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;padding-left: 30px\">Before applying for placements, the students should obtain detailed information about the industry &#8211; including but not limited to:<br \/>\ni) Industry background;<br \/>\nii) Type of activities:<br \/>\n&#8211; Service(s) provided;<br \/>\n&#8211; Ongoing and\/or future projects;<br \/>\n&#8211; Products or goods produced;<br \/>\niii) The relevant work scope of the industrial training.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;padding-left: 30px\">This information may be acquired directly from the respective industry or via the students who have formerly completed their training at the industry.<\/p>\n<h4>Application Procedure<\/h4>\n<p><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;padding-left: 30px\">Once the industry is identified, the students are expected to:<\/p>\n<p>i) Complete the Potential Company for Industrial Training Application Form (BLI-1C);<br \/>\n&#8211; attach the industry detailed profile;<br \/>\n(BLI-1C need to be submitted even the industry is listed in ITS)<br \/>\nii)submit the complete BLI-1C form to the Industrial Training Secretariat at the SC Academic Office for the approval and issuance of the industrial training confirmation letter.<br \/>\niii) Review the industrial training industry listed in the ITS. The students are reminded to explore whether the selected industry is appropriate;<br \/>\niv) Apply for the industrial training placement at the selected industry through the ITS. The students are allowed to apply for only ONE industry at any one time;<br \/>\nv) Collect the industrial training confirmation letter from the Industrial Training Secretariat at the SC Academic Office;<br \/>\nvi) Forward to the industry the following documents:<br \/>\n&#8211; The industrial training confirmation letter;<br \/>\n&#8211; The student\u2019s resume;<br \/>\n&#8211; The Organization Acceptance for Industrial Training Form (BLI-2A).<br \/>\nvii) Follow-up with the industry should there be no response received within TWO weeks of the application.<br \/>\nviii) The industry should return the BLI-2A form to the student or directly to the School Academic Office (by fax or mail) with accepted\/rejected reply within the period to be defined by SC;<br \/>\nix) Return the BLI-2A form to the Industrial Training Secretariat &#8211; to be recorded for the issuance the industrial training confirmation letter:<br \/>\n&#8211; Only if the industry in the BLI-2A form is the one originally applied for in the ITS, shall the confirmation letter be issued. Otherwise, the student may face disciplinary actions and penalties will be imposed. The Disciplinary Unit shall advise the student on further actions;<br \/>\nx) In the event the application is rejected, the student is required to submit BLI-2A form or official letter from the industry as proof; and repeat steps (i)-(ix) for new placement application.<\/p>\n<p>The students are accountable for the consequences of bypassing SC in applying for industrial training placement. Hence penalties may be imposed.<\/p>\n<p>SC shall not be liable for any problems whatsoever and\/or legal actions that may be taken by the industry.<\/p>\n<p>Should there be any problems related to the placement, the students are advised to consult the Industrial Training Coordinator or Committee.[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Procedure to Apply for Industrial Training at Overseas Industry&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Industrial training abroad must obtain the approval from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia (Wisma Putra) beforehand. Completed applications should be submitted through the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Students Affairs) at least 30 WORKING DAYS before leaving for overseas.<br \/>\nApplications must be accompanied by the following:<br \/>\ni) Three (3) copies of the application letter and 3 (three) copies of the papers to be done by the Placement Committee.<br \/>\nii) The offer letter from the industrial training industry.<br \/>\niii) The overseas application form (Form KN (HEP) (Amendment 2010) completed by the students with comments and support from SC Chair. This form can be obtained from the Office of the Students Affairs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Applications must clearly state the parties who will fund the training expenses such as airfare, meals, subsistence, accommodation and others.<br \/>\nStudents must arrange their own passport \/ visa.<br \/>\nStudents can take additional insurance, and the cost will be borne by the students themselves.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Procedure to Cancel Industrial Training Placement Application&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The students are discouraged from withdrawing the industrial training placement application. Nevertheless, in the event the industry fails to respond (application accepted or rejected) within the specified timeframe, the students are expected to revoke the application with a written cancellation letter and apologies to the industry.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Procedure to Decline Industrial Training Placement Offer&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">Should the students decline the placement offer with due justification(s), they are required to perform the following tasks:<br \/>\ni) Present to the Industrial Training Committee the concrete and justifiable reason(s) for declining the offer;<br \/>\nii) If agreed upon by the Committee, students need to verbally inform the industry on the decline decision. However, should the industry disapprove, students MUST accept the industrial training placement offer from the industry.<br \/>\niii) If the industry approves the decline, students need to prepare and send an official letter for declining the industrial training to the industry and send copies to the Faculty Deputy Registrar and the Industrial Training Secretariat. This letter must be endorsed by the Industrial Training Coordinator;<br \/>\niv) Wait for the response from the industry that accepts the student\u2019s decision to decline the placement offer at their industry;<br \/>\nv) Upon receiving the approval letter from the industry, submit the letter, at the earliest, to the Industrial Training Secretariat for record;<br \/>\nvi) Apply for new placement.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Industrial Training Placement&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">The placement shall only be made after ALL of the following conditions are complied:<br \/>\ni) The student have registered for Industrial Training course code (SC* 3114 and SC* 3118);<br \/>\nii) Meet the CPA and total \u2018acquired credit\u2019 requirements as at the preceding semester before the industrial training commences;<br \/>\niii) Meet other requirements as deemed necessary by SC.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">SC shall release to the students the confirmation letter for reporting for industrial training, with the following details:<br \/>\ni) Name and address of the industry;<br \/>\nii) Name of the officer in charge;<br \/>\niii) Telephone and fax number of the industry;<br \/>\niv) Reporting date and time;<br \/>\nv) Name, telephone and e-mail of the university supervisor.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">SC shall also send the Industrial Training Placement official letter to the industry to notify the information pertaining to the student\u2019s name, reporting date and time and the contact number of the university supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][et_pb_accordion_item title=&#8221;Insurance Coverage letter&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.4.1&#8243; open=&#8221;off&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify\">\nBefore undergoing to industrial training, students are required to obtain insurance cover letter issued by the office of Student Affairs (HEP).<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_accordion_item][\/et_pb_accordion][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is COMPULSORY for the students who intended to go for the industrial training to enroll for this course on the registration day as set by the university \u2013 failing which the students will NOT be permissible to commence the industrial training.
