JOHOR BAHRU, 6th July 2021 – A total of 13 students from School of Computing, Faculty of Engineering, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) received the School of Computing Endowment Fund Contribution for the 2020/2021 Academic Session.

The virtual ceremony was officiated by the Chair, School slot77 of Computing, Prof. Ts. Dr Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir who expressed the importance of having such endowment fund contributions and other initiatives at the school mainly to support students who are in need.

The application to receive the fund contribution  for the current academic session was open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students from School of Computing.

The Alumni and Advancement Committee (JKAP) of the school had selected a total of nine undergraduate students and four postgraduate students from 20 applicants who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and eligible to receive the fund.

A postgraduate student as the student representative delivered an appreciation speech to the contributors during the ceremony. Besides student recipients, one of the support staff from School of Computing also received the endowment fund contribution.

School of Computing received in total RM55,136.88 endowment on 8 December 2020 from Malaysian Software Engineering Interest Group (MySEIG) as UTM was the main organiser of the 26th Asia-Pacific Software Engineering Conference (APSEC 2019) from which RM2,000 was distributed to the selected undergraduate students under software engineering programme for this session.

While the SC “Prihatin” 2021 Charity Campaign during the situs slot77 previous Ramadhan month managed to collect RM3,092 from alumni, staff, and students at the school.

The Chair of School of Computing along with JKAP members led by Associate Prof. Dr Shahida Sulaiman as the Manager of Alumni and Advancement convey their gratitude to the contributors.

Indeed, an endowment fund was established with the purpose of leading the education, welfare and to assist those in need. This practice will hopefully contribute to a culture of contributing which in turn can enrich the DNA of individuals and institutions like UTM.
