D.I.A.N.A. was initially showcased at UTM Research Open Day during the visit of YB Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Minister of Higher Education.

On 6th February 2023, our team has joined UTM Research Open Day that was held in conjunction with the visit by Minister of Higher Education, YB Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. During the event, we have showcase D.I.A.N.A a virtual assistant in the form of an intelligent hologram avatar that operates in real time. The project Leader, Dr Ajune Wanis Ismail, said D.I.A.N.A is capable of interacting with humans through a natural conversational style, understanding what is being said while giving meaningful and appropriate feedback.

“The name D.I.A.N.A stands for ‘Digital Security and Social Intelligent Assistant’. It was developed as a virtual avatar similar to a woman with a Malaysian identity. In fact, the intelligence it possesses allows this avatar to promote national heritage and culture, thus potentially being appointed as our digital ambassador,” Dr Ajune explained.

“DIANA is a holographic assistant that can be trained to know any information we want her to know. With an artificial intelligence (AI) brain and human-like voice thanks to the Natural Language Processing approach, the first version D.I.A.N.A (D.I.A.N.A 1.0) can interact and answer questions about UTM,” Dr Ajune stated.

“She is well-versed in UTM facts, giving her a UTM brand persona in the digital form. She may one day become our virtual assistant and faithful friend due to her ability to think and act like humans.”

“To assure DIANA can reach out to people at all levels, alongside holographic technology, we have also deployed Augmented Reality (AR) technology so that D.I.A.N.A may pop up on smartphone displays. The AR-based DIANA has the same ability as our hologram,” said Dr Ajune.

“In the form of mobile apps, D.I.A.N.A can benefit users as a protector and educator towards a safer society in the digital world,”.
