MEDAN, 24-25 Oct 2024 – The Faculty of Computing (FC), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) recently attended the National Coordination Meeting (RAKORNAS 2024) organized by the Indonesian Association of Higher Educations in Computing (APTIKOM) in Medan, Indonesia. APTIKOM represents over 1,300 higher education institutions in computing across Indonesia, spanning from Aceh to Papua. This annual event welcomed a strong turnout of 994 participants. It was officially opened by the Mayor of Medan, YT Bapak Aulia Rachman.
In a milestone for international collaboration, the Dean of UTM’s FC, Prof. Ts. Dr. Wan Mohd Nasir Wan Kadir, signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) with APTIKOM’s Chairman, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Achmad Benny Mutiara, at the RAKORNAS 2024 inauguration dinner. This LOI signifies a commitment to collaborative initiatives in academic, research, and community services between UTM and APTIKOM.
The event also highlighted Malaysia’s contributions to AI research. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Murtadha Mohamad, an expert in AI and IoT from UTM, delivered a keynote address at the International Conference on Informatics and Computing (ICIC 2024), an annual feature of RAKORNAS.
The collaboration momentum continued on the second day of RAKORNAS, with FC formalizing 87 LOIs with Rectors, Vice-Rectors, and Deans from various Indonesian universities and higher education institutions specializing in computing. This extensive network of partnerships underscores the commitment of both Malaysia and Indonesia to advancing computing education and fostering impactful research across the region.
