UTM Student Crowned Champion at Huawei AppGallery Hackathon 2025

19 November, PAHANG – Congratulations to Samin Sarwat and his mentor, Dr. Farkhana Muchtar from the Faculty of Computing, for bringing pride to UTM by winning the Champion title in Track B at the Huawei AppGallery Hackathon 2025.

The Huawei AppGallery Hackathon, organised by Huawei AppGallery, Huawei, and MDEC, and hosted at Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA), gathered outstanding student innovators from universities across Malaysia. The event showcased the nation’s brightest talents competing to develop impactful digital solutions.

Under the mentorship of Dr. Farkhana, Samin Sarwat from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) delivered an exceptional performance, emerging as the Champion of Track B. The competition initially drew over 120 participants, with only 10 teams qualifying for the final round. These finalists represented several top institutions, including UTM, Sunway University, UiTM, UMPSA, UMS, UTAR, APU, and UKM.

Among this impressive lineup, Samin distinguished himself with AgroThink, an innovative project designed to empower farmers through intelligent agricultural insights and practical digital tools. The solution aims to support farming communities across Asia that are increasingly embracing mobile technologies.

UTM is also proud to highlight another team that achieved recognition at the event. A team from FKA, known as Hashtag Sugoi, secured a place among the Top 10 finalists in Track A with their project MyBencana. The project was developed by Nabil Ikhwan Bin Sharudin, Izzati Athirah Binti Isa, and Yong How King, under the guidance of AP. Ir. Dr. Rini Asnida.

Bravo to both teams for representing UTM with excellence, creativity, and unwavering dedication.
