Christchurch, 1 September 2026 – A group of 23 students from the Faculty of Computing (FC) had the opportunity to undertake an academic visit to the Human Interface Technology Laboratory New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ), University of Canterbury (UC), in Christchurch, New Zealand.
The students were accompanied by Dr. Fazliaty Edora Fadzli and Dr. Muhammad Anwar Ahmad, who supported and guided the students throughout the academic programme and their engagement at UC.
The visit provided the students with valuable exposure to developments in Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Mixed Reality (MR), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and other emerging immersive technologies being explored through research and innovation at HIT Lab NZ.
Beyond a laboratory visit, the experience enabled the students to see how knowledge and skills in computing can be translated into research, technological innovation and real-world applications. It also provided a valuable international learning environment where students could engage with new ideas, technologies and perspectives.
The mobility programme further reflects the growing strategic collaboration between UTM and UC, particularly in immersive technologies, student mobility, research collaboration and global talent development.
Faculty of Computing continues to broaden our studentsโ learning beyond the classroom, providing opportunities to experience global research and innovation ecosystems firsthand and encouraging them to become more globally connected, innovative and future-ready graduates.
